Our food bank project has been featured in several major newspapers. Jay Rayner of The Guardian visited the warehouse and met several of our food bank members to report on our work. We also welcomed Katrin Bennhold of The New York Times, who joined in with the distribution of food bags at our food bank in Bridlington.
Real Aid has also featured in a documentary for the BBC by Sean McAllister. The programme was about the plight of the working poor and food poverty in the city of Hull. Real Aid featured heavily because of our work, together with community centres, in redistributing food to vulnerable and marginalised families.
In all they shift around 400 tonnes of food a year. The Guardian, August 2013
Real Aid is always proud to make further links and closer ties with our local community. For some time we have been working with White Stuff in Beverley's Saturday Market to raise awareness and funds for our local projects. As always, we have to thank the staff and customers for their tireless efforts in supporting Real Aid.
A party of intrepid riders took on the Way of the Roses coast-to-coast route in aid of Real Aid, setting off from Morecambe and finishing in Bridlington, to raise funds for our local UK projects. Real Aid supported the team with a vehicle that stayed with them throughout the journey.
Each year we appeal for food boxes to benefit children and low-income families across the East Riding of Yorkshire, so that more families can enjoy Christmas without the worry of how they will meet the extra cost. We also send gift boxes overseas through our partner charity in the Netherlands, on to Romania and Moldova.
